Alaska, USA
I started ice sculpting in 2005 with a team lead by Claus, which gave me a great start on the sculpting techniques and philosophy. The Spiral of Life a single block carving in 2007 was the first sculpture that I created together with my spouse and team mate for over 10 years.
Our fascination for cold climates brought us to Alaska, where we work as scientists. Here we discovered ice as a medium to integrate science and art. Our sculptures are inspired by themes from our research fields of hydrology and biology. With these sculptures, we hope to spark the conversation about sciences with a wider audience.
