Jason was born and raised in Hawaii.  He learned ice sculpting as a chef at a resort hotel on Kauai.  Moved to Seattle in 1986 and while working at various hotels, continued to practice ice sculpture.  In 1990, established a professional ice sculpture business, providing ice sculptures for the greater Seattle area.
