Ice Alaska is excited to announce that the planning for the 2019 World Ice Art Championships is well underway and is joining forces with other non-profit entities, Christmas in Ice AND the Tanana Valley Fairgrounds, the new venue for this coming year’s 28th annual World Ice Art Championships.  Combining with the Fairgrounds, we will be having a Winter Carnival with the World Ice Art Championships at its center, to include food vendors, dogsled rides, an ice skating rink, a weight-pull contest and more!!

Ice Alaska is asking for the community’s help with several things in order to bring back this world renowned Ice Carving competition to the Fairbanks community.  We are in need of new members, volunteers (Have you got a talent that can be utilized at the new Ice Park? We NEED YOU!), and new officers for the Board of Directors.

It is with much sadness we announce the resignation of the Board President, Hank Bartos, in order that he may direct his energies toward his campaign for Borough Assembly.  However, Hank has promised that he will be our “biggest volunteer” wherever we need his assistance. Board Member Steve Iverson has stepped in as interim President as we seek new members from the community who would like to become involved in one of the most important winter tourist activities here in Fairbanks.  We will be holding elections July 17th and all applications (short one-page application) are due by July 10th.

Applications for the Board of Directors can be found on our website at www.icealaska.com, OR, we will have applications at our booth at the Downtown Midnight Sun Festival on Sunday, June 24th in space #153.  If you have any questions regarding the duties of the Board, etc. please contact Board Member Brian Palmer at 907-347-1458. We need the community’s support, expertise and talents in so many areas.  To put this event on takes hundreds of volunteers and thousands of volunteer hours.  We cannot do this without support from YOU, our community. It’s a lot of work…but it is also a LOT OF FUN!!
