There is a quote attributed to Walt Disney: “If you can dream it you can do it.” For me this means that when you dream great and beautiful things, they become so powerful in your head that they must come to life. But first comes the dream. This quote came to mind today as I walked around the quiet woods that will erupt into frenzied activity tomorrow as the Ice Carving Championships begin with the multi block competition. 

The carvings sculpted by these creative and imaginative artists all begin as dreams. Ideas come from magazines, children’s books and suggestions from others that over months evolve into possible concrete actual designs. Inspiration and ideas often arise seemingly out of nowhere.

One sculptor told me his mind is always thinking of his next piece to carve. Another sculptor said he might have more than one design in mind and doesn’t make the decision which to carve until the very last minute. For the 2021 multi block competition there are five four-man teams carving nine blocks of ice into one future masterpiece.    One future entry is entitled “King of the Berry Patch”.  A second one is called “Super Sneaky”. What fun it will be to see how these titles materialize in the five days of the competition. The park opens at noon February 15. Come watch the magic happen.
