Even with a few added inches of snow, visitors are coming to watch the evolution, from simple blocks of ice to their more complex form. Each day brings progress and a new perspective. I met two mothers this morning with their two daughters who had all flown up to Fairbanks from Seattle just to come see Ice Alaska in person. As the girls were testing the slides, the moms were telling me how fantastic our event is and how they are looking forward to watching the sculptures come to life.
“The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.” The teams working on their creations at the World Ice Carving Championships on day two of the multi-block competition reflect this quote, proving that the true value of a strong team can lead to success. You can see these carvers work together, think together and help one another; they think and work as one. They each have their own assigned tasks which meld together effortlessly. All this teamwork is visible in the progress made from day one to day two.
By the way, if you need to warm up, be sure to visit the Gift Shop and the concessions station. Joe Fields is the owner of Arctic Habanero and he has lots of flavorful treats to savor including the always warming and welcoming hot chocolate.
