The Enchanted Forest was alive today, astir with energy. Single Block began this morning at 8AM. There are thirteen sculptors ready to start carving. One of them told me Single Block is his favorite competition because it’s all his, more fun and less stressful. He is carving a piece called “Steam Steampunkrus”. It will be a lot of fun to follow this interesting title as it evolves into a work of art.
Another piece that inspires the imagination is titled “Splitting Headache”. I can hardly wait to see that one. Other titles are “Making Magic”, “Fire Spirit”, “Snowdancer” and “Like Father Like Son”. With all the sculptors working on their own creations, we are in for a treat. Even on the first day, there were a lot of visitors to the park this morning taking pictures and enjoying the activity.
Ice Alaska has been very busy entertaining all of our visitors. The park was full yesterday, so full in fact, that a group of volunteers had to plow snow in order to make new parking areas. Comments from people have specified that there is so much to do this year. There are mini slides and climb on sculptures for our little guests and lots of games and big slides for teenagers. The games, especially, are very popular. There are photo ops all over. Ice parkas, ice clowns and ice animals, which all have cut out spaces to frame your face, stand beckoning you to come, smile and have your picture taken. I am quoting a friend of one of our carvers who said, “It (Ice Alaska) adds so much flavor, life and interest to this otherwise often bleak and long winter and to this community. It’s a real gift.” Come see what we are all about. The ice, snow, fun and hot chocolate are calling your name.
