The woods are quiet again; the ice carving contest is over. All that can be heard, other than an occasional squirrel or bird, are the footsteps of visitors who have come to admire the completed achievements of thirteen talented ice carvers. Who won Single Block? The Awards Ceremony is in a little more than an hour. I will delay posting this so I can let you know who are the coveted first, second and third place winners. All of the sculptures are breathtaking. Two of the carvers were competing for the very first time. Kudos to them and to all the talented sculptors.
One area I haven’t talked about too much is the Gift Shop. I wandered over there this afternoon. Karen Lane is the volunteer in charge of the Gift Shop and she is very exuberant about all they have to offer and what items are selling well. There is only one blanket left, so if you have admired them and would like one, you had better pop over to the fairgrounds and to the gift shop. They are black blankets with a picture of one of last year’s sculptures printed on them. Postcards of current sculptures are also popular items along with the handmade neck warmers. The Gift Shop is always nice and warm and a quiet respite from tackling the slides and playing the ice games. And, by the way, you can check out a sled from the Gift Shop. There is no fee to borrow one. Arctic Habanero catering, located in the Gift Shop, told me their hot chocolate is their best seller along with their hot dogs and chips and melted cheese.
Congratulations!!
