Advice from a snowman: Be jolly, happy and spend time outdoors. Avoid meltdowns. Be well-rounded. Love well, life is short.
Just a few more hours left in the Double-Block competition. Not many chainsaws today. They have been replaced with the tools for the delicate and subtle finished cuts of a flower, an animal’s tail, the swoosh of an arrow. These are the finishing touches that bring the sculpture to life, to give it a personality, a soul. I would not want to be a judge. All the pieces I’ve watched nearly to completion are full of personality and charm. At 9:00PM tonight, the horn will blow and the judging will begin. The results will be announced at the awards ceremony tomorrow night.
News from around the park. First an update from the igloo the college students are working on. One was inside the igloo this morning working on it and asked me if I saw a problem. I noticed it had no door. He said, “Yep, we forgot to add an opening to get in and out.” He laughed and said he’ll have to use a chainsaw to get out the door that doesn’t exist.
I visited the giftshop on my rounds today. Be sure and stop by when you come to the park. Joe, who runs the food concession, has a huge bucket of marshmallows that he piles into the cups of hot chocolate he sells. There was a big smile on one little girl’s face when he handed her the cup chock full of the nice white, fluffy, squishy nuggets.
And lastly for today, one of the volunteers told me that there had been a wedding at one of the multi-block sites. Apparently, the giant Sasquatch sculpture was the site of a wedding a couple of nights ago. I do remember seeing a girl walking out of the woods with a white dress on and holding a huge bouquet of flowers but I never would have guessed she had just been married with an ice yeti as her witness.
Be sure and come by and see the amazing double block sculptures. People take amazing pictures and post them online, but these beautiful creations are so much more breathtaking in person.
