We're finishing up day three of the six day event that is our Multi Block Classic.  By now the exhibits are starting to take shape and pace is quickening as the artists work against the clock to complete their entries on time for the final horn at 9:00 p.m. Saturday night.  

This is an exciting time, not just for the Artists and Volunteers, but also visitors who are facinated by the sculpting process of carving in ice.  Many of our artists are graduates of Culinary School  and others are professional sculptors in not just ice but other media.  What is it that brings these artists to Fairbanks?  Some have their own ice sculpting businesses, others work for caterers,  and they are hired by various venues to sculpt as directed, promotional art for varioius events.  The World Ice Art Championships offers these exceptional artists an opportunity to experiment with design and technique, and to express themselve with art designs of their own.  

Each exhibit is unique to the artist, in texture, theme, and design.  A truely unique site to see.  

What to expect at Ice Alaska and the World Ice Art Championships?  This venue is engineered to support the artists' expressions in ice.  The entrance is an open park design with the potential to include other winter activities and demonstrations besides carving in Ice.  A short stroll along a lighted path, leads the visitor into a wooded area, this summer time campground, has been transformed into an exhibit area full of sculptures of various sizes and designs.  

If you haven't stopped by yet, we encourage you to purchase a season pass so you can make multiple trips.  Our Multi Block Competition concludes at 9:00 p.m. Saturday night.  This is a juried exhibition and so all exhibits will be judged that evening and the winners will be announced Sunday evening, March 3rd at 8:00 p.m.
