The Multi-Block Competition for 2020 is over. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 8:00PM tonight. Which sculpture had enough Wow Factor to win? You may vote also for your favorite Multi-Block. Think about how much your favorite sculpture influenced your feelings and log on to IceAlaska.org and cast your vote for the Peoples Choice Awards.
There were a lot of visitors today walking around the eleven Multi-Block sites, discussing the sculptures and oohing and ahhing over these beautiful pieces of art, hoping their favorites would win. There are eagles, dragons, wolves, motorcycles, archangels, seahorses, basketball players and hearts. I overheard one visitor comment on the heart carved from ice, how anatomically correct it is.
Alas, one entry in the competition suffered a calamity. The entry for Site One was called Momma’s nest and featured a Pterodactyl sitting on her eggs. As the team was attempting to remove the supports from one of the wings, the wing collapsed. Unfortunately, this is one of the things ice carvers have to live with, dread and accept. It is difficult to believe that frozen water can be transformed into something as breathtaking as the ice sculpture but ice is heavy and ice breaks.
Good luck to all the teams. See you at the Awards Ceremony tonight. As a side note for today: the ice carvers for the double block are beginning to arrive, checking out their sites and getting ready to create. Their competition begins on Sunday, February 23rd at 9:00 AM and ends Tuesday, February 25th at 9:00PM.
