Ice Alaska has Fresh Air!

FAQ: Is Ice Alaska Open today?
ANSWER: YES!!  We have Fresh Open Air!

Earlier this week, both AK State Authorities and the Federal Government have issued responses to the WHO’s declaration of global pandemic with the COVID-19 outbreak.  We understand the concern of many and how it impacts the status of events and business here in the Interior of Alaska.  We have researched the State of Alaska’s office of Health and Social Services recommendations: AK Dept HSS  In addition we have referenced the recommendations of the Stanford Hospital Board to ensure that our venue is safe for the public.

As an outdoor event, our visitors are not in a confined space.  We have fresh air and sunlight, something this virus does not flourish in.  In our Warm-up Shelter, the Yellow Lions Club Building, we routinely wipe the surfaces with surface sanitizers.

According to the Stanford Hospital, the best defense is to keep hydrated, drinking warm liquids and even daily gargling is good practice.   Routine hand washing is key, because the virus can live on your hands for 5-10 minutes.

We are an all volunteer organization, and our volunteers have been provided the guidelines as recommended by the Alaska Health Services and we understand if some prefer to don additional protective wear, like masks and gloves, that is a personal decision that each member makes.

In compliance with official recommendations, we also request that any volunteer and/or visitor that is suffering from a cough, or other symptoms, please stay home.  The coronavirus pneumonia begins with a sore throat dry cough.  The sore throat lasts about  3 to 4 days before it blends with your nasal fluid and then works its way to the lungs, where after about another 5-6 days it develops into pneumonia.  We also encourage everyone to take time to review the recomendations from reliable medical sources and to be kind to one another during these stressful times.

We hope you come visit Ice Alaska, get outside, get some fresh air, see the beautiful art that is soon to melt away!
