Ice Alaska Begins work on the 2021 World Ice Art Championships
Ice Alaska extends a hearty Welcome Back! to our volunteers and Thank You! to the group who were on hand this weekend for the first round of harvesting fresh ice for the upcoming 2021 World Ice Art Championships.
According to Steve Brice, the crew was able to harvest 44 blocks of ice. This initial harvest accomplishes two things. As first round ice, it can be used by the Bootcamp Volunteers to start building park features.
The space in the pond will now freeze in these cooler temperatures to create more clean clear ice, that can be extracted later and used for the upcoming competitions.
The Ice Alaska Planning committee meets regularly, and the schedule is available onliine at www.icealaska.org. The first competition is set to start February 15th, and there is much work to do. The Volunteers with Ice Alaska extend an open invitation to all to be a part of this annual outdoor tradition. The organization is keeping up on the State’s COVID guidelines to protect both volunteers and the public, including online viewing options for those who can’t participate in person.
