The World Ice Art Carving Championships here in Fairbanks are one of the largest ice carving competitions in the world. Ice Alaska is the official sponsor for this prestigious yearly event and run exclusively by volunteers, many of whom have been volunteering with Ice Alaska for so long they call it family.
If you come to Fairbanks to volunteer from at least fifty miles away, or come from out of state, and work six hours a day for at least ten days with one day off, Ice Alaska will pay for food and lodging. There are enough jobs to interest everyone, both indoor and outdoor jobs. If you like to work outdoors, some of the positions are in security, site prep, park construction, snow blowing, just to name a few. Indoor jobs include ticketing, gift shop, housekeeping, youth activities and sculpture support. Check IceAlaska.org and you can volunteer online. If you live nearby, you can come in and say, “I’m ready to volunteer. What can I do?” You will be both welcomed and very appreciated, all the way to the end of March.
