Announcing the first ever Big Ice Boot Camp!
The Ice Alaska World Ice Art Championships will be reborn in February 2019 at the Tanana Valley Fairgrounds. A new foundation rooted in the legacy of the old is the blueprint, and on Jan. 20, we start rebuilding that foundation, together.
To launch this historical undertaking, Ice Alaska & Steve Brice are proud to announce the inaugural year of Brice 'BIG ICE' Boot Camp, & extend a warm invitation to carvers of all skill levels to join and learn an invaluable assortment of Ice Sculpting techniques applicable to all ice....& especially, the BIG ICE. From elite techniques for Champion level carvers to the vital building blocks of world-class carving geared to the amateur carver...
In addition, the array of weather conditions, ice quality, design challenges and more all contribute to the Fairbanks experience & your finished sculpture. Learn how to maximize your skills in the climate and conditions the Great North exposes the Ice artist to...
( if you're lucky, the Aurora Borealis may even appear over your work !!).
Learning is only half of the thrill of Brice 'Big Ice' Boot Camp.
The shared experience of all carvers, the many diverse origins represented, plus the team dynamic generated by the “Ice Family” is like no other. ; truly an experience in comradery, dependability, and creativity all it's own. Steve insisted upon providing “good food, and good rest” for all carvers, as it
should be.
We will provide comfortable, rest worthy lodging, with our own brother in Ice, Gourmet Chef Duane Schmelhaus, manning the carver kitchen. The “Polar Bear” cafe will be keeping carvers nourished with chef inspired menus & extra love in every meal.
Travel costs are typically the biggest “bridge to cross” for a lot of artists, we know too well, and want to offset these costs as much as possible. We will contribute to this by offering sponsor blocks throughout the community as well as side projects as they become available around town / the park, as well. We WILL make every effort to provide as many opportunities as possible to offer sponsor carvings, as well, multiple levels to keep the pieces diverse, and applicable to sponsor requests.

Hands-on training from Master Sculptor, tool making pioneer, and Champion of Champions, Steve Brice, will bring us ALL into, & lay the groundwork, for 2020 & beyond.
