Time to Build

Many hands will get the work done in time for opening!  I stopped by the center of operations in the Badger Hall today and found the place buzzing with activity.  The Volunteers with Ice Alaska are now on the home stretch.  Ice is being harvested and delivered to the Fairgrounds, where it is being transformed into art.

Steve Brice was busy managing the team of carvers, both experienced and novice, to cut and shape blocks of ice into free standing art, and slides.

Steve Iverson is heading up the insulating of the White Gate, the designated entrance at the Fairgrounds.  This location is usually a summer venue, so the ticketing booths need to be insulated with heaters installed so the ticketing agents can work inside.

Gisela Young and Joan Foote are busy assisting the full field of competing sulptors with their registration and biography progress.

Our Webmaster, Brian Palmer, is working behind the scenes of this new website, and in the coming weeks we will be building team pages and preparing for our online shows that all our long distance friends enjoy watching each season.

I have to say, it is so exciting to be back to work, cataloging the activity, making contacts and preparing for our big event.  Even more exciting is the support and encouragement from the Fairbanks Community!  We invite you to be a part of Ice Alaska.  Stop by our online Volunteer Application page and sign up today!
